Transfer Molding by REDCO
Transfer molding is accomplished by using all of the same methods as compression molding with the exception of the mold design.
In addition to the mold plates that encapsulate the part shape, there are additional plates.
This style of mold has a pot, in which unvulcanized rubber is placed and a piston (or plunger) forces the rubber into the closed part cavity through a small sprue hole.
There is more wasted material with this process—but less material handling—both before and after the molding process. These molds also cost more because of the additional material and machining time to produce them.
At REDCO, we utilize the techniques of transfer and compression molding in hydraulically operated, heated-platen presses.
